Default birkenstock footbed Legasies

A track of land is shown from the worm's eye view. Giant Blades of grass is towered by a couple SUVs, some people, and an assortment of shovels, rakes, and implements of destruction.
The Genome Project gave us Humans access to the road map of our physical DNA. The source code of human, and therefore all life on this planet. While it was touted by the scientific public as a bold step into the future, there were voices that warned about the misuse of this knowledge.
Suddenly, a sobbing white mouse with blond hair ran through the grass. She didn't notice the fact that the blades cut back, staining their leaves with her blood.
A sense of urgency filled her very being with every step as she ran further and further from the place that scared her to the very core. She didn't know where she was going...frankly, she didn't care. Just as long as it was away from that awful place she was previously.
They needn't have bothered.
After a fade to black (An appropriate place for a simple title) A cityscape of what looks like New York City after the Don Bluth 'An American Tail' treatment loomed over the next splash page, where the skyscrapers are built by blocks, popcicle sticks, Erector Sets, Leggo Blocks, and various other toys.
Mucking around with DNA is nothing new. They inadvertedly created this city of Thornopolis. Fifty Human Years ago, a group of rats created a colony on this very spot. This wouldn't cause any surprise to anyone, nor would such a colony turn into this miniature version of the Big Apple, but they need to put into account the fact that these rats were products of an experiment in human intelligence. An experiment that granted those rats humanlike intelligence. Very few humans know of the obvious success of this experiment, although someone did made a series of books and a movie about it.
The images of Thornopolis show that this is indeed a miniature New York City, complete with a Times Square. Several Game Boy Advance play the part of a Trinitron which blared a TV show, rows of LCD displays-several watches end to end-created a ticker tape displaying news and scores across the buildings, as a multitude of mice, rats, squirrels, shrews, and various other critter scurry among their lifes-some on two legs, while others on all fours-as the lights and the sounds of a major downtown metropolis echoed through these psudeo concrete valleys.
In the center of this intersection, a statue of a mouse was seen with a name: Jonathan Frisby, Our Hero.
Indeed, this town has evolved far beyond even the imaginations of their forefathers. Maybe a bit too far evolved to actually remember their humble origins. In fact, most of the residents here can only remember the ones who created this town as mere Legend than anything real. If they remember it at all.
Finally, the panel turns to find a Theater that is apparently sold out. Calypso music can be heard as well as a barker's voice as the panel zooms in.
However, there is this orphan mouse who didn't forget. His name was John Briz, or at least that was the name on the letter that came with him. He descended onto this city's front porch remarkingly resembling that fellow on the statue, with green eyes as mysterious as where he came from, and carrying an Amulet that seemed lost to Time around his neck.
As the voice grew more legible, the Marquee can be seen: "Performing Tonight: Jonathan Brisby"
A mouse who took up that legend's name, and made him that legend's Legacy.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! PLEASE WELCOME THE ONE YOU WANTED TO SEE, THE MAGIC MOUSE TOO HOT FOR DISNEY TO TOUCH, AND NO, IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF THAT STONE...MR. JONATHAN BRISBY!"
Jonathan stepped out and acknowledged the crowds applause. He was still amazed that his magic act never failed to draw in a full house, and accepted every clap the crowd was giving him.
"Thank you ladies and gentlemen," Jonathan said, removing his top hat and cape...and making them disappear in a puff of smoke as he did so, which brought on gasps of amazement an further applause from his audience.
"Well...if you're clapping at that, then you should really find THIS amazing..." he said, and then motioned towards the back of the stage, where a large glass tank filled with water was being wheeled in by his assistant, Oscar.
"You know...I've been told in the past that I was washed up as an escape artist. I think this next trick will prove them right in one respect..." Jonathan ad-libbed as Oscar then brought out a straight jacket and several manacles. "I'll be in this straight jacket and chains...inside this very full tank." Several gasps escaped from the audience, and then Jonathan continued. "Of course...I don't have to tell all of you how dangerous that will be...but then I'll be making things a tad more difficult since I'll be hanging upside down as well."
The audience watched in anticipation as Jonathan was readied for the escape attempt, and hoisted on a large hook to a point above the tank. Finally, he was lowered into the tank, and a large curtain was draped over the entire tank area.
Jonathan worked with his usual speed and precision...using the concealed lockpick he had to remove the manacles inside, and then pulled at the weak points in the straight jacket to remove it from his person. After a couple of minutes, when the audience thought he had drowned, he emerged from beneath the curtain, and bowed towards the audience, dripping water all over the place in the process. The audience roared with applause.
...and this was just the start of the evening.
She saw a town coming up, with a sign that said "Thornopolis City Limits". The looked like it was full of lights as she stopped to take account of the situation.
"Maybe I can find help there..." she thought to herself. After catching her breath momentarily, she started running again, going further into the city.
"Great work, as usual, Johnny," Oscar said as he and Jonathan cleaned up after the show. "I think that was the loudest I've heard that audience applause!"
"You say that EVERY night, Oscar!" Jonathan said, packing the last of his props in a trunk. "Still...we had a full house again tonight. I guess I must be doing something right..."
"Yeah...you're good! That's the only explanation you need," Oscar said, "I just wished there was more than just you on that stage. I'm so out of place dragging around your props."
"What makes you say that Oscar? Nobody in the audience minds you doing it."
"John, you've seen the Human Magic Shows over at Las Vegas. Copperfield, Burton, that Masked Idiot on FOX..."
That last one made John swallow a groan.
"...they had a whole group of people helping them out, all of them dressed up with style to create a professional look. You have me ducking my head out there, and you come out looking like an rank amateur."
To that, John merely shot back: "Houdini, Oscar. Blackstone, Henning...that stoner dude who was on ice one night on ABC..."
It was Oscar's turn to groan.
"...they don't need 50 assistants to do one simple card trick? Besides, how can you put an whole entranauge on our payroll without going broke?" John then paused a moment. "Well, we might need one, but that's probably the max for right now. It's just the problem of finding that one, but I think that's all we'll need at this point. Heh, it'll beat asking for victims in the audience to stuff into boxes."
Oscar had to pause a bit before resuming. "So...you up for a drink before you head home?"
"Nah, I'm bushed," John said. "Besides...I spent two minutes in a large tank of cold water...a drink is the LAST thing I want!"
Oscar laughed at that. "Alright...I'll catch you later, Jon. I'll clean up here..."
John nodded in thanks and left out the back door of the stage area. As he took in a large breath of night air, he heard a voice cry out...
"Help me...please!"
John looked towards the source and saw a female stumble towards him. Her legs looked badly scratched and she looked as if she had been running for miles. Just as she was about to collapse to the ground, He wasted no time to run up and catch her in his arms.
"Are you alright, miss?" John said. "What's wrong? Miss? MISS?" His cries were to no avail, however, as he soon noticed that the girl had passed out.
"OSCAR!" John yelled towards the inside of the theater.
Oscar ran out and saw Jonathan carrying the prone female in his arms. "What happened, Johnny? Who's she?"
"I don't know, but she's in bad shape," Oscar's star magician said, bringing her into the theater. "Get the medical supplies..."
Oscar nodded, and ran off to fetch the medkit.
After several hours have passed, the girl began to come to, and she looked around at her surroundings. She found herself lying on a bed in what looked like a modest bedroom with several posters hung on the walls. When she also saw someone watching her, she gasped and cringed over to the opposite side of the bed.
And that's when she saw them:
Green Eyes
Two emerald pools of color staring back at her, filling her vision.
They belonged to that someone who was watching her from across the room, birkenstock footbed, what could be the most handsome mouse she'll ever see. She didn't notice the grey-furred figure though, not the blue buttoned pants with red shirt, yellow sneakers and white gloves, the warm smile and flowing brown hair.
No, she was transfixed for an instant that seemed an eternity in those green eyes of his. She looked like a dear in a car's headlights as she saw her reflection in them.
"It's alright...I'm a friend..." that mouse said, trying to calm down the girl. "You collapsed near the theater I was coming out of and you were in pretty bad shape. After my friend and I patched up your legs, I brought you here to keep you comfortable."
The girl looked down at her legs, and saw the bandages that were applied. It was here that she also saw what she was wearing: A short red skirt over panties with a white T-Shirt. She didn't know what to think of what she was in from the hips up.
"Th-thank you...I think." she said, laying back down.
"Perhaps an introduction is in order," Jonathan said. "My name is John Briz, but everyone calls me Jonathan What's yours?"
The girl stared vacantly at the ceiling, as if in thought, and then said...
"I...don't remember..." "Amnesia, pure and simple..."
Doctor Adams's prognosis was simple and to the point. It was also lacking in substance...
"Care to elaborate, Doc?" Jonathan said. "I mean, you can't just lose your memory like that..."
"This coming from a guy who knows hypnosis..." Doc Adams ad-libbed, causing Jonathan to sneer somewhat, and then continued in a serious tone. "But you are right...based on the scratches in her legs and the amount of stress her entire body had been through, she must have been through one heck of a traumatic experience."
The girl, who had been listening intently, finally spoke up. "Will I ever get my memory back?"
Doc Adams nodded. "Yes, young lady...but it will take some time. Just take it slowly, and your memories will return eventually. In fact, now that you've calmed down, can you remember anything?"
"Just a name...probably mine..." she said. "Susan..."
"Susan...well, that's better than calling you 'miss' all the time," Jonathan said. "Anything else?"
Susan looked straight at Jonathan and said, "Just...your eyes..."
"My eyes?" Jonathan said, somewhat surprised.
"Yes..." Susan said, somewhat shakily. "I seem to remember...knowing someone with green eyes like yours..."
At that, Adams raised an eyebrow. Another mouse with green eyes? That's unheard of! In fact I wouldn't know that such a rodent exists if it weren't for John here. I've yet to see another one in the same state.
"What was his name...or her name?" Jonathan asked.
Susan looked at him blankly and then slumped back into her sitting position. "I...don't remember..."
Jonathan placed a gloved hand on her shoulder and said, "Hey...it's alright. Like the doc said, it will take time..."
"Well, I've done all I could," Doc Adams said, getting his equipment together. "Let me know if there is any change in her condition, and Miss..." He looked towards Susan saying the latter part. "Try and relax and don't try to force yourself to remember anything."
"Alright..." Susan said.
After Doc Adams had left, Jonathan looked back towards Susan, who had pulled her legs close to her body and rested her head on her knees. He walked back towards her and asked, "Do you need anything? Are you hungry?"
"Not really...I'm just tired..." Susan said. "Plus...I don't know where I'll be able to stay..."
"Hey, you're welcome to stay with me," Jonathan said as he smiled warmly. "You can stay as long as you want."
"Thank you, Jonathan..." Susan said. "You've been so kind..."
"Hey...I can't just sit by do nothing when someone's in trouble," Jonathan said, "especially a lovely lady such as yourself."
Susan blushed at this and giggled slightly. Jonathan smiled and led Susan towards a bedroom. "Come...let's get you to bed..."
After a dreamless sleep, Susan woke up and found herself in a comfortable bed in a strange bedroom. Briefly, she forgot where she was, and then remembered the events from last night; allowing her to take a warm bath in peace, tended to her healing legs, and tucked her to sleep in his guest room. She smiled, grateful for the kindness this Jonathan showed, and then her nose caught a pleasant aroma coming from somewhere else in the house. As she looked around, she found a cloth robe waiting for her close to the bed and immediately slipped it on. She then walked towards another room of the house, where she saw Jonathan cooking some breakfast.
"Good morning, Susan," Jonathan said. "Please...sit down. I'm almost finished with the eggs here."
As Susan sat down, she noticed a few of the same posters in the kitchen that she had seen in the bedroom. "Is that you on those posters?" she asked.
"Sure is..." Jonathan said as he brought a skillet with a large omelet over to the table. "I'm a professional magician by trade, even got my name from a local legend who's a great magician and excape artist..." As he said this, he removed the omelet from the skillet...and then with a quick flick of the wrist-"In his own right."-the skillet turned into a bouquet of flowers which he placed into a vase on the table.
Susan went wide-eyed at this display. "Wow...that's amazing!"
"Thank you," Jonathan said with a small bow, "but I'm also a whiz at the kitchen as well. I hope you enjoy the omelet I made."
"I'm sure I will, it smells wonderful," Susan said, and then began to dig into the breakfast served to her. Apparently, the hunger from last night finally caught up with her.
As Jonathan watched her dig into her omelet, he was struck with a sudden inspiration. "Say...would you like to check out where I perform? I mean...you collapsed outside the theater, you'd probably want to see more..."
Susan looked up and said, "Sure! That sounds like fun!"
"Alright, but first..." Jonathan said, "we should probably find some clothes for you. When you collapsed at my feet, you were wearing hardly anything."
Susan blushed at this, and then pulled the robe she was wearing closer to her...
The back door to the theater creaked as it opened, and Jonathan led Susan into the backstage area. However, Susan was also focusing on something else as well...namely, her clothes. Jonathan had gotten her a white blouse, a red skirt with white polka dots, and a pair of red dress shoes over black panty hose thick enough to hide her healing wounds, a red with white polka dotted hair bow keeping her long blond hair in a ponytail...and also handed her a spare pair of his white gloves to 'complete the look' as he said.
"I still can't believe this getup I'm wearing..." Susan said.
"Hey,jimmy choo bridal shoes, it looks good!" Jonathan said, turning on the flattery. "Besides, considering what I look like and with my profession, we'd match well with another famous mouse couple..."
"Yes, and just who ARE Mickey and Minnie anyway?" Susan asked, suspiciously.
"I'll tell you later," Jonathan said. "Come...let me show you my world..."
Jonathan led her into one area of the backstage where he kept all of his props. "I'm an escape artist most of the time..." Jonathan explained as he showed some of his escape equipment, "but I also have a few common standby tricks as well. Over here I have my saw a person in half trick...right here my top hat for all types of hat magic...and over here..." He pointed to what looked like a small stuffed doll that looked like a clown of some kind. "For the kids, I have my pet monster...don't worry it isn't real..."
As Susan stepped closer to the doll, it suddenly looked towards her and said with a scratchy voice, "Hey...how are ya?" Susan shrieked in spite of herself and jumped back.
Jonathan looked towards another part of the theater and said disdainfully, "OSCAR!"
Oscar stepped out of the shadows, holding a small controller of some kind, and said, "Sorry...couldn't resist..."
Jonathan shook his head and told Susan, "Sorry...Oscar is a bit of a tinkerer. This creature is one of the devices he came up with."
Susan breathed a sigh of relief, but began to feel nervous again as the large form of Oscar walked up to her. "Glad to see you're feeling better, Miss..." he said as he extended a paw in friendship. "The name's Oscar...I'm JB's assistant."
"I'm glad to meet you Oscar," Susan said, shaking his paw. "My name's Susan...and that's all I remember..."
"Yeah, I know," Oscar said. "JB told me last night when I checked in with him last night. Don't worry...I'm sure your memory will come back."
"Thank you..." Susan said, and then looked at the large tank Jonathan used for one of his escapes.
As she did this, Oscar took JB over to the side and whispered to him. "Hey, JB. Maybe we could convince he to join the act!"
Jonathan gave him a look and whispered back, "Are you crazy? She just went through hell, has no memory as a result...how could you suggest that?"
"Well, come on, I'm not being callous," Oscar said. "It's just that she has nowhere else to go, and you know I could use some help with the show. Besides...you know how most magicians have a cute assistant, and she certainly fits the 'cute' part..."
Jonathan nodded at that. "Yeah, but I should still wait. She still doesn't know us that well, and after that stunt you pulled..."
Oscar winced slightly at that, and then Susan walked up to the two of them. "Jonathan...what's this over here?" she asked.
Jonathan walked back to her, and then continued with the tour.
That evening, after a day of being shown the theater and the rest of the city, Susan once again found herself relaxing in the modest home of Jonathan. At the present, Jonathan was making yet another proposition to her...
"I have another show tomorrow night," Jonathan said, as Susan listened attentively, "and I was wondering if you'd like to see it? I can have Oscar arrange for a seat in the theater or you can watch from backstage...whichever is your preference."
"That would be wonderful!" Susan said. "I'd be glad to see it, but you don't have to go out of your way to get a seat for me, I can watch from backstage."
"Alright then," Jonathan said, and then noticed Susan trying to stifle a yawn with a gloved hand. "Long day?"
"To say the least...I'd better get to bed," Susan said, getting up from her seated position. "I will see you in the morning, Jonathan!"
"Alright...have pleasant dreams, Susan," Jonathan said, watching as Susan walked towards the bedroom.
Susan watched as she saw an entire village burn all around her. Mice and other critters of all shapes and sizes were running in all directions, and she too was running from her life to try to get help.
As she ran, she saw a large hand from who knows where come out and reach towards. She continued to run, but the hand continued to gain on her as if trying to grasp her. Finally, the hand managed to grasp her, and an eerie laughter seemed to fill the air as she was lifted skyward...
"NOOOOOOOOO!" Susan screamed as she woke up from the nightmare. She began to take large gasps of air as she looked around at the room she was in. Without warning, her eyes began to fill with tears just as Jonathan burst into the room.
"Susan! Are you alright?" Jonathan said as he approached Susan's bedside. He got his answer as Susan began to sob loudly out of fear from the nightmare she had.
Jonathan took this as his cue and immediately sat down on the bed near Susan and drew her into a light embrace. "Shh...it's alright, it was just a nightmare..."
Not another word was said for the rest of the night as Susan continued to sob quietly, eventually falling asleep in the comforting embrace of Jonathan...
The next morning started with another visit from Doc Adams, as Jonathan called for him after Susan had told him about the nightmare last night.
"Do you think that nightmare has something to do with what caused her to lose her memory?" Jonathan asked the doctor.
"It's possible," Doc Adams said. "An event like that could be traumatic enough to cause amnesia. Was she able to tell you anything else about it? Did she recognize the village or any of the people she saw?"
Jonathan shook his head sadly. "No...and she has no idea why she had that image. I didn't press her for any information...especially after seeing how scared she was from that nightmare."
"Hmmm...that's probably for the best," Doc Adams said. "If that village was hers and something like that did happen, then she'd probably be better off not remembering. You should do something to help take her mind of that dream."
"I plan to," Jonathan said. "In fact, she's going to watch me perform tonight."
"That should work then," Doc Adams said, and then turned towards Susan, who was sitting down seemingly lost in her own thoughts. "Miss Susan?"
Susan looked up as the doctor continued, "You should be fine, Susan. Try not to think of that nightmare and just relax. As before, just let me know if you there's any further problems."
Susan nodded in understanding and Doc Adams took his leave of the two of them. After he had left, Jonathan sat down next to Susan and said, "Are you going to be alright?"
"I think so," Susan said, and then turned towards Jonathan. "Thank you...for staying with me last night."
"Hey, like I said before, I will not just stand by when someone's in trouble,Juicy Couture Tracksuits," Jonathan said, placing an arm around Susan. "I'll help you through this...that's a promise."
Susan smiled and let herself get drawn into Jonathan's embrace, but not before giving Jonathan a light kiss on his cheek...an act which surprised Jonathan. "Thank you.." she said, and rested her head against Jonathan's chest.
Jonathan could do nothing but sit there and continue to comfort Susan, surprised that this girl he hardly knew would kiss him like that. Only one word escaped his mouth as Susan rested her head against him...
"Whoa..."
That afternoon, Jonathan was getting ready for the show that evening and readying some of the equipment and tricks he was going to use. As he and Oscar were setting up, Susan watched with great interest, as well as partial fear out of how dangerous some of the tricks looked.
"Come on over if you want to check these out, Susan," Oscar said. "They're not dangerous..."
"You have a trick where you can cut someone in half, and you say they're not dangerous?" Susan asked.
"Well...since I need to practice before the show, why don't I show you how one of the tricks work?" Jonathan asked.
"Sure!" Susan said.
"Okay then...let me just get the equipment ready," Jonathan said as he and Oscar began to argue over which trick to show her, since it goes against the magician's code to show how tricks work. (But no one told that masked idiot that!)
As they were deciding, someone was coming out from the backstage area. It was an actress who was in a show the evening before, and she had come to rehearse for another show the upcoming weekend. As she walked out, she spied Susan and walked up to her.
"I haven't seen you around here," she said, getting Susan's attention. "Are you a friend of JB?"
"Oh...you mean Jonathan..." Susan said. "Yes, my name's Susan. I...kinda stumbled into JB's hospitality when he found me outside the theater, without most of my memory."
"Ah...so you're the one Oscar talked about..." she said, and then extended a hand towards Susan. "My name's Isadora."
Susan returned the handshake, and then Isadora gave Susan a look. "Um...by hospitality, did that include picking out those clothes for you?"
"Yes..." Susan said, a bit embarrassed. "He said it looked good on me."
"Well, it does, but it's hardly flattering for a girl as good looking as you..." Isadora said, and then noticed JB and Oscar talking about something. "What say I find something more flattering for you while they're arguing?"
"Oh, you don't need to do that..." Susan said. "I mean...I am planning to watch Jonathan's show tonight, but I'm just going to be backstage..."
"Well, you should look nice for that, anyway...and it's no problem, I've done this for a lot of the new actresses that come in," Isadora said. "Come on in the back, there are plenty of clothes you can try."
Susan followed Isadora towards the back as Jonathan and Oscar continued to argue.
"Okay, Susan, we're ready!" Jonathan said as he wheeled out a box which laid on a table. He looked around and saw that Susan had disappeared...and he KNEW she didn't know magic of any kind. "Susan? Where are you?"
"I'm coming!" He heard Susan's voice said, and then watched as she walked out towards him. His jaw then dropped when he saw what she was wearing.
She was wearing a sheer black top with red along the neckline and with puffed sleeves. The top had a low neckline which showed a bit of her cleavage and had long black sleeves with extended to the wrist to where her gloves started. Her skirt was replaced with a red sequined skirt which hugged her sides and showed more of her figure, as well as revealed a bit of her legs which were still covered in pantyhose to hide the bandages. She was even wearing a pair of nicer red shoes than Jonathan had given her, and her face was augmented by a light application of rouge, blue eye shadow, and lipstick.
"Susan?" Jonathan said, surprised at her new appearance. "Where did...?"
"Wait, I think I know, JB..." Oscar said. "By any chance were you helped into that outfit by a girl named Isadora?"
"Yes..." Susan said. "She said this was more flattering for this evening's events."
As Susan said this, Isadora walked out to join the group. "So...what do you boys think of Susan's new look?"
"I...well..." Jonathan said, finding it hard to talk as he looked at Susan, and finishing up with a "Wow..." Finally, he shook himself out of his shock, and said, "Anyway...we have the cutting a person in half trick ready to show you, Susan. You'll see how easy this works. Oscar, if you would..."
As Oscar helped Jonathan into the box, Oscar whispered to Jonathan, "She looks good in that outfit! Good enough to be your assistant..."
"I'm not going to ask her about that, Oscar," Jonathan said. "She's still a bit scared from that nightmare she had last night."
After Jonathan got into the box, Oscar said, trying to get into character, "You sure about this, JB?"
"Hey, I need to lose some weight anyway, so let 'er rip!" Jonathan ad- libbed back.
As soon as Jonathan said that, Oscar took out a pair of fearsome looking blade, each about the size of the sides of the box where Jonathan's head and feet stuck out. He then placed both of the blades next to each other and placed them in a slot near the middle of the box. Susan almost wanted to turn away, but seemed transfixed on what was transpiring.
As soon as Oscar separated the two halves of the box, making it seem that Jonathan was indeed cut in half, Jonathan's head turned toward Susan and said, "Okay, Susan...come on over here!"
Susan walked over to the half where Jonathan's head was sticking out. Oscar then proceeded to open that half. Susan was surprised to see that Jonathan's entire body was scrunched up in that half.
"Wait...if you're all in there...whose legs are those?" Susan asked, pointing at the other half.
Oscar smiled and opened that portion, revealing a special push out support that held a pair of shoes. "This is how the trick works," Oscar explains. "The person simply pushes the device out to reveal the shoes when he or she is put in the box, and as we're removing him or her from the box, we can pull it back to maintain the illusion."
"Wow..." Susan said. "It looks so simple now that I see how it works..."
"I know, so as you see, I'll be fine this evening," Jonathan said as he exited the box.
"Well...I'd better leave you to get ready," Isadora said. "Good luck tonight, JB!"
"Thanks, Isadora," Jonathan said.
"Oh...and thanks for the clothes, Isadora," Susan added.
"It's no problem, Susan," Isadora said, and then headed towards the door.
"Well, we'd better get back to practicing, Oscar..." Jonathan said, and the two started rehearsing their act.
The show went off without a hitch, and Susan was enjoying every minute of it. As Jonathan was finishing up one trick, Oscar walked up to Susan and said, "Hey, Susan. Jonathan is about to get ready to do some card magic. What say we surprise him?"
"How so?" Susan asked.
"Well, usually, I bring out the cards for him...but how would you like to bring them out?" Oscar said, causing Susan to gasp in surprise.
"What? I...I couldn't..." Susan said, surprised Oscar would suggest that.
"Oh, come on, you don't have to do anything special," Oscar said. "Just bring out the cards to him!"
"Oh, alright..." Susan said, smiling a bit. "I suppose it WOULD make for a nice surprise..."
It was that time that Jonathan began to speak for the next part of his act. "Alright...well, I've been a bit of a card tonight, so what say we do some card magic? I just need some cards..." He then looked towards the side of the stage and said, "Oscar? My cards if you would..."
Jonathan then watched in surprise as Susan walked out with his cards. Several catcalls and whistles came out from the crow as she walked out and handed him the cards, causing her to blush slightly as she walked back backstage.
"Well...that was definitely a surprise, but a pleasant one at least," Jonathan ad-libbed as Susan walked back. He then thought to himself, "I'm going to have a LONG talk with Oscar about this."
After the show, Jonathan got ready to take Susan back home. But first, he gave Oscar a serious browbeating for embarrassing Susan.
"I apologize for Oscar," Jonathan said. "I can't believe he convinced you do that..."
"Oh, it's alright," Susan said. "It was kind of fun helping out a bit..."
As the two left the theater, several fans of the show were still talking outside, and several statements could be heard by the two of them.
"Hey, did you see that cute girl on stage?" "Yeah...do you think that's JB's new assistant?" "I hope so...they would sure make a cute couple!"
Susan began to blush as she heard that last phrase, and Jonathan placed a gloved hand on her shoulder.
"Looks like the public likes you, Susan..." Jonathan said.
"I know, but, GOD am I embarrassed..." Susan said.
"Ah, pay them no mind..." Jonathan said, and the two began to walk back towards their house.
Jonathan pulled the lever to supply energy to the heating element in the small fireplace, actually the glowing part of a light bulb that was removed and placed inside a carved out brick. He looked up to see Susan quietly approaching him in her robe, the bandages were finally removed from her legs, which revealed shapely legs that didn't seem to be that roughed up. Whatever scars that'll remain would be easily covered by sheerer hosery.
Susan was still afraid of having another nightmare, and Jonathan decided to stay up with her to try and provide any comfort he could. At the present, this included keeping an arm around her as Susan peered deep into the flames, seemingly lost in her own thoughts.
"Maybe a fire was a bad idea..." Jonathan said. "Considering that nightmare you had..."
"No...I'm fine..." Susan said. "It's just...seeing all those people running in fear...that hand reaching out towards me..."
Jonathan nodded in understanding, and then reached around his neck. He took off his necklace to hold up in front of Susan. It was a small ruby pendant on a gold chain which seemed to glowed in the firelight, no, seemed to glow from inside itself. Susan noticed this item and asked, "What is that?"
"Something I've had since I was born," Jonathan said. "One of the few things left of my childhood. Some people say that they've seen it before, before I got it. But it's been around my neck ever since I arrived into town by baby buggy, and it hasn't had a reason to find another mouse to adorn itself with yet."
"It's beautiful..." Susan said as she watched the pendant slowly move back and forth.
"They say that when I'm showing a lot of courage, like going up against a cat, or when the rope snaps before I can untie myself, " He chuckles, "It lights up like a star. Shines with an inner fire. They say that The Stone has a power that I've tapped into when it lights up in my darkest hours. I only wish I could remember it. I just felt drowsy through the whole time, as if I'm asleep . . . and dreaming."
As she watched the pendant, listening to her friend melodically coo away, she soon felt herself getting get drowsy, and then drooped further into Jonathan's embrace, fully asleep.
Jonathan took this as his cue and carefully carried her up to her bed in the guest room. As he walked up, he whispered quietly to her. "It's all right Susan, sleep and dream. There's no need to be afraid. You are safe with me. You are a beautiful mousie, and you will be cared for by someone who's dear to you. I will be with you for all time." As he set Susan in her bed, he smiled as he saw a smile appear on Susan's bed, and realized that the suggestions were working.
As he quietly left the room to let Susan sleep, he took another look at his pendant and smiled. "Worked like a charm...to coin a phrase..." he said to himself.
The next morning, Susan seemed to be in better spirits as she joined Jonathan for breakfast. Of course, much to Jonathan's surprise, she greeted Jonathan with a tight hug.
"Well...you're quite welcome," Jonathan said, realizing that was for comforting her last night. "I take it you slept well last night?"
"Like a log," Susan said, and then giggled a little bit. She had on that dress JB put her in earlier, the one that reminded her of a cartoon character-gloves and all, but without the black pantyhose this time; her legs didn't need it anymore-but by now she didn't mind wearing it. In fact, as she swished back and forth, letting the skirt sway over her hips, she in fact enjoyed her outfit. "I even dreamed you used your magic to make us fly off into a romantic cruise, with me being your assistant in your acts. It wasn't even scary at all."
"Well...did you enjoy being my assistant in that dream?" Jonathan asked as he served up what appeared to be Eggs Benedict.
"Actually...yes," Susan said.
"Well, I was thinking..." Jonathan said. "Since you currently have nowhere else to go...why don't you become my assistant? I mean...it'd be better than sitting around hoping you regain your memory..."
Susan began to blush and said, "I...I don't think I could..."
"Are you sure?" Jonathan said. "You said yourself you had fun, even though it was just a dream. Besides...the public already likes you."
Susan was still unsure, but then Jonathan took Susan by the hand and led her towards a large hall mirror. "Think about this, Susan..." Jonathan said, gesturing towards the mirror. "Those people out there...all looking at you as you take part in one of the greatest acts around." He then grabbed a nearby blanket and waved it over Susan and himself, and Susan was shocked to see Jonathan in his magician's costume and herself in the outfit Isadora put her in, only with the white sheer leggings. Susan was even in makeup to boot.
Jonathan continued his speech. "As you take your final bow, the cheers you receive are so exhilarating, the feeling can't even be described. Those cheers aren't just for the magician, mind you...but for you as well for the part you played."
Susan took all this in and looked at herself in the mirror, thinking about what Jonathan was saying. A chill ran down her spine, but it was a good chill as the thought of those cheers for her began to excite her.
"So...what do you think, Susan?" Jonathan said. "Interested? I mean...I know we haven't known each other for that long..."
Susan then turned towards Jonathan, and Jonathan noticed she had tears in her eyes that were soaking into her facial fur and smearing the makeup a bit. "I'll...I'll do it, Jonathan..." She then grabbed Jonathan in a tight hug and choked out a "Thank you..."
Jonathan smiled and hugged Susan back, saying, "Welcome to the team, Susan..."
Susan then looked down and stammered a bit. "I would be welcome if you show me how you did that quick change trick on me, and how I'll get my other dress back." As she looked up to JB's green eyes and goofily smiled, he just had to let out a chuckle.
By the time Jonathan taught Susan how to do a quick change, she already had on something underneath her dress, which would be key: Mostly a one piece black swimsuit which hugged and supported her shapely figure almost perfectly. When worn between her stockings and her dress, it appeared that she wasn't wearing them at all. "Now, all I have to do is yank on a string behind the collar, and the other outfit is revealed, right."
"Exactly, Sue. It'll come in handy in some areas. Now then, shall we return to the theater? We've got a lot of practice to do."
Susan nodded with a smile as she locked her Johnny's arm with hers as they walked out of the house and toward the street.Topics related articles:
