The Fashion Row back up! — show me more! Miu Miu Small Calf Leather Bowler August 18th, 2008
It had to happen sometime: I’ve finally stumbled upon a Miu Miu purse I can’t stand. This Small Calf Leather Bowler boasts a heinous, ’70s-inspired color palette. There’s something highly off-putting about the black cutouts appearing against the brown leather, and the orange bits on the sides are just about the worst detail they could have added. Bland, uninspired and actually even a bit cheap looking – but certainly not easy on the wallet! This is $1434 at MyTheresa.

Maison Martin Margiela Giant Pleated Clutch August 18th, 2008
Though giant bags enjoyed quite a bit of fanfare several years ago (thanks to the likes of the Olsen twins), they’ve pared down significantly in recent years. That’s not to say large carryalls are out of style, but they aren’t the only cool thing to carry anymore. Oversize clutches, though, are still fairly trendy and have stolen quite a bit of the spotlight away from their more dainty counterparts. I suppose that makes this Maison Martin Margiela Giant Pleated Clutch a worthwhile mention. Cloaked in thick black leather, folded delicately down the front and back and measuring an impressive 17 inches wide, this unusual piece has enough room to store nearly all of your basic handbag essentials. Fortunately, they were smart and threw in a strap – who wants to lug around a giant clutch filled with so much stuff? Take it or leave it. I’m too much of a pack rat to enjoy it, strap or not. Available for $745 at eLuxury.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Lil Riz Pleated Hobo August 18th, 2008
A clever shot of green instantly elevates this Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr. Q Lil Riz Pleated Hobo (whew) from basic to brilliant. Of course, you really have to love the green apple hue to fall for this bag, because it’s all about the color. It splashes itself boldly over soft, pleated leather. While I’m not crazy about the hue, I do like the cuffed top, a unique touch that folds over to reveal an enamel logo plate. Also in a deep purple shade, this bag isn’t exactly versatile, but will definitely steal the hearts of women who prefer bright, fruity hues. Available for $428 at Nordstrom.

Ashlee Simpson Delights in Dior August 18th,
Leather handbags, 2008
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz still have a little simmering to do until their baby makes his or her debut, but until then they’ve found another little bundle of joy to share some quality moments with. I’m speaking, of course, of the lovely Dior Cannage Tote Ashlee’s toting here. In case you’re unfamiliar with Dior, it’s the thing Ashlee’s wearing that DOESN’T look like it was swiped from a hippie commune (unlike that boho no-no maxi dress and shifted-down headband thing she’s been wearing lately). With its luxe black stitched leather and chunky gold chain details, the Dior handbag is sure to make one heck of a dapper diaper bag.

Rachel Bilson out and about in LA August 18th, 2008
Is this a Zac Posen handbag I spy? I think it’s Zac’s Pumpkin Drawstring bag, but not being a Zac follower, I can’t guarantee it. Either way,
eye glasses, it’s a hot bag for the end of summer and fall, and Bilson is wearing it with a plain sundress, which is a crisp, together look. This purse is much more “her” than the Tod’s Softy she was toting around nearly all summer. The Posen bag (if it is) is fresh and modern…just like Bilson.

Jimmy Choo Fabia Zip-Top Clutch August 17th, 2008
If you’re dying to carry around a Jimmy Choo label and have just $1,000 to spare, I might suggest this black leather Fabia Zip-Top Clutch, currently going for $895. If you have more money to play with, however, I’d then steer you to some JC purses that ignite more passion than this lovely, but not exactly enthusiasm-inducing, clutch. With its smooth black leather, ultrasuede lining, and prominent gold-accented ring detail, this clutch would make a nice addition to any handbag collection. But it’s not particularly memorable, or daring – and if I’m spending $895 on something, I want to make a statement. Instead,
louis vuitton handbags, this is better-suited as a solid standby for those times when you just need something “that goes.” Available for $895 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Miu Miu Vitello Patch Wristlet August 17th, 2008
Wristlets are sort of my new obsession. I’ve been looking for one for almost every outfit (psychotic, I know,
Discount purses!), from super dressy to super casual. The thing is, they’re so comfy to carry, and force you to downsize what you carry. This is important for me because if I’m toting a Balenciaga work, well, you can be sure I’m filling that Balenciaga work. Filling it with everything from a book to magazines to a bottle of water to my entire makeup bag; this is not a good thing. This wristlet from Miu Miu isn’t cheap, but it does work with a myriad of outfits,
louis vuitton bags, and also tucks in nicely to a larger work bag. The delicious dark cherry wood color is warm and toasty for fall, and the gold detailing is just enough to make sure it’s noticed. The Miu Miu Vitello Patch Wristlet retails for $650 and is available now at saks.com.

Judith Leiber Dora Fish Clutch August 17th, 2008
Finally – a purse my two-year-old nephew might fight me over (you can have it, kiddo). I don’t know what’s more of a head-scratcher: that Judith Leiber felt the need to pimp out “Finding Nemo” in multicolored Austrian crystals, or that the silly thing is on back-order. C’mon, people! I might shell out for this kitschy clutch if I had a six-year-old with expensive taste and a really, really huge winning lottery ticket, but otherwise I can easily live without it. I’ll just have to tote my – sniff – Marc Jacobs purse to the aquarium and hope nobody makes fun of me. Available for 625 clams at Neiman Marcus.

Purse Page Exclusive: 5 Questions for Kooba Designer, Abbe Held August 16th, 2008
Mariana Leung has been interviewing some designers of handbag collections for a series called “5 Questions for…”.
The first designer who she was able to work with was Abbe Held, the designer and co-founder of Kooba, which Purse Page has numerous posts on.
Mariana L: What exciting things will we see this Fall?
Abbe H: This fall – you can find our very popular Elisha and Devin bow bags in rich jewel tone patent leathers which I love and we are introducing a new soft pleated version of our Natasha bag in beautiful metallic leathers and great basic deep tones. This fall is all about mixing fun colors and luxurious leathers with great easy shapes that you can wear day into night.
Mariana L: I read that your early inspirations for handbags came from collecting vintage pieces and hardware. What is the favorite piece in your collection?
Abbe H: Vintage shopping is a passion of mine that I inherited from my mom Bonnie, who co-founded the company with me nine years ago. She’s taught me how to scour every corner to find that special piece. My favorite piece is an amethyst satin pouch that I found while shopping at a flea market in St Tropez.
Mariana L: Kooba fans are unique and strong women. Which celebrities do you count as muses?
Abbe H: This is a hard question because there are so many women whose style I admire and appreciate. Kate Moss, Charlize Theron, Sienna Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively just to name a few……
Hayden Panettiere with the Kooba Elisha Shoulder Tote
Mariana L: Your success came pretty quickly for a young collection. Any hiccups did you experience along the way as a result of that?
Abbe H: I don’t think I can remember a day when we haven’t had any hiccups. But that’s all part of the challenge and excitement of owning and growing your own business. Luckily, I have a brilliant team of very dedicated women working with me and we have been able to face each problem and get through them together hopefully learning something new along the way.
Mariana L: How many packs of gum can fit into a “Hope” clutch?
Abbe H: I guess it depends on the gum…..I am a big red fan so I guess about 5 which still leaves me room for my blackberry
Mariana L: Thanks Abbe! Can’t wait to shop the new collection!

Dior 61 Medium Shopper August 16th, 2008
What’s not to love about this decadent Dior 61 Medium Shopper? From the soft, touchable leather to the rich, tomato-red hue, it’s the perfect companion to sling on as you head to the office, run errands or just laze around town and show off your fabulous taste. Perfect for fall’s neutral palettes, it teams beautifully with brown or gray ensembles, but it would even be great during the summer with something white or cream in tone. The handle may be the only drawback for some people – with a dose of silver metal they’re quite sturdy instead of soft, so those who prefer to actually wear shoulder bags on their shoulders may have a tough time. Otherwise, this is a timeless choice. Available for $1850 at eLuxury.
