But from someone who works closely with highly competitive runners I have a few concerns about the barefoot running craze. While I feel there are some benefits I also offer a few reservations including:
・ They felt barefoot running strengthened foot and lower leg musculature
And the one answer that caught my attention the most and made the largest influence on my barefoot running views was....
So it made perfect sense to me when they were dead serious about limiting their barefoot activities to "no more than" 4-5 miles per week.
And then comes along the notion that we should be implementing barefoot running into our running schedules.
The majority of seasoned runners at this level have encountered and battled the injury bug in some form through their running maturation and progression. And these guys are super in tune with staying on the positive ledger of the injury curve and not subjecting themselves to unnecessary stressors that lead to injury.
There are others but these four cover quite a few bases.
・ It strengthens foot, ankle, and lower leg musculature that wearing running shoes can inhibit
Who knows you just might find the exercise and fitness niche you were looking for.
Now these guys are serious collegiate runners putting in 90-110 miles per week (the vast majority of these miles in quality cross country shoes) and they can flat out run. They were running barefoot on a quality grass surface when I asked them their views on this subject.
A couple of days ago I asked a group of runners I work with their views on barefoot running particularly the number of miles they run while barefoot.
・ They loved the "feel" of running barefoot in the grass
・ If you are a bit overweight (anywhere from 15-40 pounds) I don't recommend you begin this activity until you reach a more ideal or realistic body weight.
Run barefoot? That's right! But I just bought me a brand new pair of Asics Gel Nimbus! Take them off. At least for a few miles.
Barefoot running seems to be one of the running rages these days. And like all trends there are good points and not so good points associated with them.

A few benefits of barefoot running according to some of the advocates include:
If you are entertaining the thought of doing the barefoot running thing then do so in a limited sense especially in the beginning. And make sure you're on a well groomed soft surface.
・ They agreed that barefoot running affords them more running efficiency from the mid/forefoot strike with the ground.
Take copies of all important documents and keep them in separate places, that way, if you lose one lot, you still have the information.Prior to travel make a list of any emergency numbers you might need, these may include the number to call if your credit card gets stolen, emergency numbers to call in the country you're visiting in case of accident, illness or crime. The number of the local consulate or embassy, whilst it's very rare to need these, when you do, you want them to hand.Chargers for your phone, iPod and any other electronic entertainment devices you may have (eBook reader, PSP, Nintendo etc).Travel Documents - plane, boat, train tickets, visa's, car hire voucher and any medical certificates to prove vaccinations where applicable.Driving license if you're picking up a hire car, make sure it is the original and not a photo copy, if you hold a UK 2 part driving license you will need both parts. If your driving license is not in roman letters (Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek, Kanji etc) then you should bring an International driving license as well.
If you are hiring a car and will be the lead driver you will need a credit card in your name, with enough credit for the car hire company to 'hold' the deposit.Do you take any medications? Be sure to bring enough for your trip and don't forget to bring original packaging in case of emergencies (where you may need to replace them). Also put together an emergency medical kit, pain killers, plasters (especially Compeed blister relief plasters), antibiotic cream, diarrhea pills, indigestion pills and of course vitamin c!With the restrictions on liquids in hand luggage and the weight restrictions on checked bags decant toiletries into 100ml bottles, you can always buy more at your destination, this also applies to sun block and insect repellent.
