Was Mayor David Miller’s press conference announcing the city had just “found” 100 Million Dollars “playing the media?” Major incompetence in budgeting is discussed by Toronto Councillor Rob Ford and John Oakley . At the now infamous press conference Mayor Miller singled out city manager Joe Pennachetti and his fiscal team for the effective leadership and management that produced these results. “I call this the sixth largest government in the country running a surplus during the biggest recession since the 1930s due to prudent management and rather difficult decisions that were taken last year” he said. These are the same excellent managers and a mayor who neglected to advise the public — until after last summers 39-day strike — that the unfunded liability for the citys employee sick-leave plan was 0 million higher than originally reported.
