Default Open Back Dresses7Northwest Herald - Loc,3Best Sel

Spring brings with it the dawning of formal wear Open Back Dresses, with teenagers headed to prom and grown-ups putting on their finest wares at weddings around the county.
But it's also the beginning of black-tie events, whether charity auction or military balls, throughout the Chicago area. And businessmen and businesswomen are headed to the stores to prepare themselves for formal outings that might have been out of favor three years ago.
"We kind of had a fall off in black-tie optional events around here that happened right after 2008," said Roy Skibbe, owner of Gipper Formal Wear in McHenry. "Things were really tough and we saw a lot of Christmas parties disappear, and the parties that were in place became more casual and less formal.
"It's kind of turning around now. We're seeing the trend go the other way and company events are coming back. We did an event for Snap-on Low V-neck Dresses, they're awards banquet, and it was formal."
This spring features formal events such as the Pritzker Military Library's annual auction dinner last week, or Turning Point's 29th annual auction coming up this week.
"There does always seem to be an event of some sort going on," said Kathryn Trocki of Kathryn's Bridal in McHenry. "We've got military balls happening right after prom, but the fall and winter certainly is more of that kind of business."
Skibbe said he saw some events in spring Long Prom Dresses, but that later in the year was when his formal wear customers picked up.
"The real season for us for black tie starts in mid-September, with company awards and banquets," he said.
Women who are shopping for their upcoming benefit or ball still will shop the formal dress racks, Trocki said, but the styles of dress they look for will be slightly different.
"The difference between weddings and formal events is that most of the time the mother at a wedding is more reserved or covered up," Trocki said. "At a ball or benefit type of event Sweet 16 Dresses, it is a little bit more stylish, a little bit more ... exposing, I guess."
And although some women will look for a sharp color to stand out at the event, Trocki said many will take a more traditional route.
"Most women just love to wear classic black, honestly," she said. "Everybody knows they look great in black and feel great in black. They do come in looking for more fashion-forward pieces, though, especially right after the Oscars."
Stitch N Time Bridal Boutique owner Pat Reich said those fashion-forward pieces did draw looks at her shop.
"It's very often the same type of dresses, but we've had ladies who were going to speak at a dinner really look for a special dress," she said.
Skibbe said the recession had been tough on the tuxedo industry. After Six tuxedos, which had been in business since 1903, was liquidated in December and its brand was bought out of bankruptcy last month by the Dessy Group Best Seller, based in New York. Another major supplier announced it would close its doors June 1.
But the consolidation has not been all bad, Skibbe said. Classic styles remain the option for most men's formal wear.
"We've been stuck in a black tux cycle since the late '80s or early '90s," he said. "There's a lot of interest in dark gray, and some interest in light gray. Watch the news guys and sports guys on TV and you'll see that."
Like the women, Skibbe said men have an eye on the Oscars for formal wear ideas, too.
"If you watch the Oscars this year, it was very traditional," he said. "A lot of men went back to a clean collar Purple Prom Dresses, bow tie and tux.
"The wedding business has vibrant colors and it's all about matching the men's accessories to the bridal colors. That's what drives the industry. But there was a subtle change at the Oscars C men were standing apart as men."
Still Yellow &Gold Prom Dresses, Trocki said she enjoyed finding ways to bring some color into the black tux world.
"We always like to have the gentleman match with their partner Black Prom Dresses, wife, date," she said. "There's always the classic black tux with a black tie Ball Gowns, but we like to add a little flair to it and pull in the color of the woman's dress. We don't get to do that too often, so it's fun when we do."Topics related articles:
