NORTHERN ABITIBI MINING CORP.
TSX Venture: NAI
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Dec. 21, 2010) - Northern Abitibi Mining Corp. ("Northern Abitibi") (TSX Enterprise:NAI) is happy to announce that Spruce Ridge Assets Limited has discovered a whole new zone of gold mineralization on their claims located right away east of Northern Abitibi's Viking property.
The new discovery, termed the Whiskey Jack zone, occurs about 150 metres east of Northern Abitibi's residence boundary, close to Northern Abitibi's recently found out Asgard zone. The first hole drilled into the Whiskey Jack zone returned 20.05 metres grading 1.12 grams per tonne (g/t) gold,
Office 2007 Standard Key, including 3.25 metres grading 5.42 g/t gold (Spruce Ridge News Release Dated December 21, 2010). Alteration and mineralization at Asgard and Whiskey Jack are similar, and it is possible the two zones could be continuous and represent part of a larger mineralized trend. The area contains extensive shallow cover and additional trenching and drilling will be required to verify the orientation and continuity of mineralization.
The four new gold zones outlined by Northern Abitibi in 2010 (see news release dated August 19, 2010) combined with this new gold discovery by Spruce Ridge highlights the widespread nature of gold mineralization in the district and the excellent potential for discovering new zones of potentially economic gold mineralization in the belt.
The Viking Residence
The Viking Residence contains numerous high grade veins within larger bulk tonnage style zones of gold mineralization situated within a 3 to 4 kilometre long gold-in-soil anomaly. Drilling highlights from previous drilling programs include high grade intercepts of 5.75 metres grading 33.7 g/t gold,
Microsoft Office Standard 2010, 3.7 metres grading 50.1 g/t gold, 0.5 metres grading 218.8 g/t gold as well as lower grade intercepts including 27 metres grading 7.9 g/t gold, 23.0 metres grading 5.1 g/t gold, and 57.4 metres grading 2.8 g/t gold. The first ever resource estimate on the Thor Trend is expected to be complete in January 2011. The Viking home is found in the mining friendly jurisdiction of Newfoundland and Labrador and has excellent access and local infrastructure, with a paved highway and power line found less than one kilometre from the project. Northern Abitibi has a 100% residence interest in the Viking project subject to a 2% to 4% sliding scale net smelter royalty held by Altius Resources. A detailed description of the Viking project is available on our website (www.naminco.ca).
