reg bonney, my long-term climbing partner, and i decided to attempt this mountain about the third week of july in 1994. the motorized approach is complex, but was one we had done several times before on climbs of soderholm, brussilof, and aye. initially one drives to a point on the radium/banff highway where the road begins to climb south toward sinclair pass; here there is a well-signed turn-off for settlers' road. take this and follow the dirt road south for some 12 km to an intersection; turn left and follow the road around a steep hairpin turn and down a hill to a large bridge that spans the kootenay river. on the other side climb up for a kilometre until there is another intersection with one branch going south,
