When Vancouver, BC hosts the Winter Olympic Games in 2010, all of the Nordic events – Nordic (cross country skiing), Biathlon, and ski jumping will be held in the Callaghan Valley. New facilities are currently being constructed in the Madeley Creek Basin. Once the facilities are complete, this will be the premier location for cross country skiing in Canada. The Nordic centre will be located approximately 8 km from Highway 99 (22 km from Whistler Village), and about 14 km from The Callaghan Backcountry Lodge, a Remote Wilderness Lodge that allows visitors to the Callaghan Valley to stay in this pristine Valley while they ski.
