Acknowledgment and Credits
The development of high-quality, international, geo-referenced population databases demands inputs of numerous different varieties. Investments by countrywide statistical and mapping companies to gather, maintain, and distribute population and administrative unit information will be the very first essential input. Each information provider is acknowledged in the table of country-specific information. The next step of pulling these datasets together in a unified fashion needs a considerable amount of labor with skills in geography, demography, and database manipulation. GPW version 3 and GRUMP alpha were efforts that were largely implemented at CIESIN, but the detailed credits for each product follows.* This work builds on 10 years of prior efforts, which are described within the documentation.
