Belfast - The line stretched out the door and around the corner. Teenage girls with their friends and families were waiting to participate in what's called The Cinderella Project
"The Cinderella Project is a prom dress giveaway project where we take new and gently used dresses and we give them away for free cheap Wedding dresses," said Mandie Sawyer Designer Prom Dresses, Chair of the Cinderella Project.
Finding the perfect dress for that special night can be costly. But this project sponsored by Waldo Community Actions Partners helps folks on a budget. All of the dresses are donated by members of the community. Dress scavengers were surprised by the selection.
"I'm pretty impressed. I only expected a few dresses but there's a lot of dresses plus size prom dresse," said Dawn Viles.
"I think there are a lot of cute dresses and a lot of people can find really cute things to wear Wedding dresses," said Breann Cummings.
But aside from just finding something to wear on prom night ball gown dresses, one shopper says she thinks having a nice dress can also help girls feel more confident.
"It's kind of improtant to most girls, having a dress, you don't want to be made fun of because you can't buy a new dress so it helps a lot of girls with their self esteem," said Dawn Viles.
Cinderella Project Chair Mandie Sawyer is thrilled with this year's turn out for the annual event. She says she'd love to see every girl leave with a dress.
"My ultimate goal would be to have all of these racks totally empty to give away every dress that we have and then start fresh next year A-Line prom dresses," said Sawyer.
And though the dresses are free grad dresses 2011, Sawyer asks the girls for one favor.
"We just ask that they pay it forward and do something for their community...The biggest example is that once girls come they'll get more involved the next year..they'll bring their dresses back, they'll spread the word prom dresses," she said.
This year's event is bigger than ever in both the number of dresses and number of shoppers. The organizers hope the event will continue to grow.
