Officials with the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges & Universities and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education are scheduled to formalize their pact in Montgomery today.More than 15,000 of Alabama's community college students transfer annually to a public four-year institution, according to Freida Hill, Chancellor of Alabama's two-year system. "Our goal was to open our doors in the same way" to all community college students, said Paul Hankins,Office 2010 Standard, president of the independent association. To see participating colleges go to the Alabama Community College System website.Faulkner State Community College President Gary Branch said it allows his students to take coursework without fear of losing the credits. The Rev. Richard Salmi,Office 2010 Serial, president of Spring Hill College, said the agreement will ease two-year students' transition to Spring Hill. Kathy Dean, University of Mobile spokeswoman,Microsoft Office 2010 Pro, said it will "ultimately save students time and money" because they can know at the beginning of their college careers which credits will transfer and where.
