Are You Dieting Or Starving Yourself? by Westly Lager
Dieting is something people do for different reasons, whether it is to fit into a new pair of jeans or slim down for a special event. Our body does not realize this is a short term goal and it automatically thinks you are starting to starve and it must protect itself at all costs. The way it does this is by storing all the calories it does have and that you take in. The effects of dieting on the brain are very similar to starving as well, in fact the behaviors people display psychologically, while dieting are no different than those of people starving in a prison camp.
These conclusions were drawn by studies done in the late 1940's that showed a direct connection between starving and dieting and how your body and mind takes each. The studies had adult men at normal average weights restrict their eating habits for a six month period until they lost a quarter of their body weight for the purpose of studying starvation. If while dieting they stopped losing weight then their food intake was restricted even further. Some of the effects this experiment had on them were they started to focus on food in almost all areas of their life. They started to collect various meal recipes and where they had pictures of women they replace them with pictures of food. There moods and attitudes were greatly affected and they displayed irritability, being upset often and arguing about everything. There energy levels dropped severely and they became lethargic.
When it came time for them to remove the restriction on their weight loss, so they could gain back their previous weight they gorged themselves. They felt like they couldn't control themselves and they developed an obsession with eating and food.
This study is important for you to understand and if you go on diets often by restricting your food intake you could develop similar behaviors on the test subjects,

When you are a chronic dieter and you get locked into trying to maintain a certain body weight you become depressed often if you are not at your goal. Other studies have shown when dieters and non-dieters weigh themselves and they weigh more than they thought they were,

Over eating can be a hard habit to break but it starts with your getting back in touch with your body and its natural cues that tell you when you should eat and when you are full. It is as simple as if you are hungry than eat,
vibram five fingers sprint, and if you are full then stop eating. Don't fall prey to any outside influences or feelings of guilt. Just because it is as simple as eating when you are hungry does not mean you eat anything. You need to nourish your body with food that is healthy for you and the right amount of calories.Topics related articles:
