Abercrombie and Fitch in sticky Situation | Eleven UK
Clothing firm Abercrombie and Fitch has seen its stock plummet by nine per cent the day after it publicly offered the cast of Jersey Shore money to stop wearing its clothes. Earlier this week the company issued a press release in a bid to persuade the show's cast members, and particularly Mike "The Situation" moncler jacket Sorrentino, not to sport A&F threads on screen. And at the end of yesterday's trading its stock had apparently fallen by a whopping nine per cent. The original press release read: "We are deeply concerned that Mr Sorrentino's association mens moncler with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. "We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans." But while the company moncler on sale was undoubtedly just trying to drum up a bit of publicity, the stunt seems to have backfired. And company CEO Mike Jeffries is loudly insisting that it was all "just a bit of fun". He said: "Last Friday morning I was with a group of people here and someone came up to me and said 'Mike, I have terrible, terrible news for you. Last night on Jersey Shore The Situation had A&F product on'. "So we all said, 'Ahhh, that's terrible. What are we going to do about it?' "That's how it happened. That's where we are and we're having a lot of fun with it." Except they're probably not laughing this morning. What do you reckon? Has The Situation tarnished the brand or helped it?
