Thumbs up Kids' tree paintings to beautify Uptown fencing

A brightly coloured forest is springing up around the Uptown Centre, with nice green trees — some with apples — on display beside bright purple, red and brown trees. “We don’t have enough trees,” said Korene Torney, president of the Mount View Colquitz Community Association. “We don’t see enough green space in our community.” This is why she decided to add to the area’s beauty with works Coach-new-Handbags 0245MEN|WOMEN|cheap|wholesale|discount|buy|new arrive|hot|best sell,RED,WHITE,BLUE,BLACK,YELLOW,PINK of art from local youth. In particular, 50 murals of trees, painted Sunday morning at Uptown. The event was organized by the community association, with the support of Uptown. The works of art will decorate the construction fencing at the intersection of Blanshard Street and Ravine Way.Jake Pearce, 4, created one particularly vibrant masterpiece with every colour available, even exploring paint-splatter and hand-print techniques. Under a tent in the corner of the shopping plaza, he was on all fours, reaching for every paint tray around and entirely focused on his work. Paint splatters covered the tarps and some were tracked out onto the concrete on the soles of shoes. The fear of having ruined his favourite navy blue track pants slowed him down only for a moment, and then Gucci Belts 1861MEN|WOMEN|cheap|wholesale|discount|buy|new arrive|hot|best sell,RED,WHITE,BLUE,BLACK,YELLOW,PINK he was back adding another layer of colour to ensure every square inch of the white board was covered. Gucci Belts 1158MEN|WOMEN|cheap|wholesale|discount|buy|new arrive|hot|best sell,RED,WHITE,BLUE,BLACK,YELLOW,PINK His mom reassured him that he could still wear the pants, they would just be a bit more colourful. Jake’s sister Sam, 6, was a bit more true-to-life in her artwork — painting an apple tree, yellow sun and bright yellow birds in the sky. The messy midday activity was an opportunity for bonding and a chance to make a mark on their community. “I wanted to find a way to make the fencing prettier,” Torney said. “I thought, ‘Why not put my kids’ artwork up?’ ”Her girls, Lauren and Julia, were two of the kids helping create masterpieces, along with friends from Girl Guides, school and other community activities. The paintings were done using latex-based paint and corrugated plastic boards to try to withstand rough weather. Torney even cut apples, birds, pears and other shapes out of sponges to help with the artistic 19V 3.42A 65W AC Adapter Charger Replacement for ACER LITEON ... process.“If it lasts six months, I will be happy,” Torney said, although the construction is expected to last a bit longer. Torney said she is open to organizing another painting in the fall, possibly with a Christmas theme, to replace or extend the murals. For more information on the Mount View Colquitz Community Association, see their website: www.mvcca.ca.kburnham@timescolonist.com
