My picks for this year’s Hambletonian were Chapter Seven, Opening Night, and Whisky Tax. You can see that, but for the winner, I would have had a trifecta. I can’t remember that ever happening before! But alas, there was the winner and he came in the form of long striding Broad Bahn, who led most of the race. Favored Manofmanymissions made his bid on the last turn and challenged NBA Jerseys Broad Bahn for the win before going off stride in mid-stretch and leaving the door wide open for Broad Bahn. And for my three picks, which finished second, third and fourth. The best overall finish my picks have had in many races. The complete order of finish is: Broad Bahn Whiskey Tax Opening Night Chapter Seven Pastor Stephen Lucky Charm Hanover Whit Manofmanymissions Magnum Kosmos Fawkes One interesting side note. Driver George Brennan became only Scottish Landscape Paintings the second driver to pilot the winner of the Hambletonian and the Hambletonian Oaks on the same day. Brian Sears is the first to accomplish that feat, which he did in 2009 at the reins of Muscle Hill in the Hambletonian and Broadway Schooner in the Hambletonian Oaks.
