Question about SEO that really needs answering

Hello. I am a newbie in the current world of search engine optimization or SEO. I own a website and I wish to have it optimized for better online visibility. There are many links that I already have when it comes to the whole aspect of getting it from the different search engines already present out there today like Google, Yahoo, and MSN. I also have paid for more links that total already to 500. Do you think that all of these things will be enough for my website to succeed? Some of the links that I have bought already have a page rank attached to it. Will these things give my site the visibility that it is after for?
