RENTON, Wash. -- In some way, John Schneider and Pete Carroll addressed almost every place of concern the Seattle Seahawks had entering the NFL draft.
There were the 2 offensive linemen grabbed with Seattle's initial two picks within the hopes they become the future right aspect of the Seahawks' shaky offensive line. Seattle grabbed a trio of defensive backs to try to get assist within the secondary, a pair of linebackers that at the very least could help on special groups, a uniquely tall broad receiver and even a cumbersome defensive end.

It appeared inevitable that at some point in last weekend's draft the Seahawks would grab a quarterback because Charlie Whitehurst will be the only one Seattle has under contract and nobody is certain in the event the Seahawks and Matt Hasselbeck will come together on the new agreement.
It wasn't to get a lack of possibilities that it did not occur. When the Seahawks picked Alabama offensive tackle James Carpenter using the 25th overall pick, QBs Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick had been still available, even though 4 quarterbacks had already been taken.
Dalton and Kaepernick went 35th and 36th overall, taken by Cincinnati and San Francisco respectively early in the second spherical.
However they weren't the only options Seattle allow pass. Iowa's Ricky Stanzi, North Carolina's T.J. Yates, Idaho's Nathan Enderle, Virginia Tech's Tyrod Taylor and Alabama's Greg McElroy were all taken within the later rounds from the draft and, in a single way or another, handed more than by the Seahawks.
The method was somewhat contrary to what Schneider said before the draft that taking a quarterback in each draft was part of a philosophy he believed in following spending a lot of his profession working in Green Bay.
But to Schneider and Carroll, the Seahawks did consider a quarterback in this draft -- Whitehurst.
Seattle sent its third-round choose within this year's draft to San Diego in exchange for Whitehurst before the begin of last season. Whitehurst never won the starting task from Hasselbeck but did start a pair of video games, such as Seattle's NFC West-clinching win over St. Louis within the regular season finale.
"Charlie was component of this draft class inside a sense in that we used a third-round choose to obtain him. We have a youthful up-and-coming quarterback," Carroll said. "And I understand where you're searching, 'let's go get another one,' but we're pleased with Charlie and continue to blossom and flourish. He is a man in my thoughts I'm not feeling like we missed out on a chance because Charlie is expanding with us."

By not taking a quarterback within the draft, it's expected to be a place of need when free agency begins or trades can be made. New assistant head coach Tom Cable already has four-fifths of his offensive line planned out with Carpenter, third-round pick John Moffitt, Max Unger and last year's first-round pick, Russell Okung. The one hole is at left guard.
Seattle also requirements more depth on the defensive line and said re-signing defensive tackle Brandon Mebane is a priority.
