(CNN) -- Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon mandated the state's National Guard apt the southeastern edge of the state apt help battle rising rivers for parts of the lower Mississippi and Ohio rill valleys braced as what the National Weather Service said could be disc flooding.

Police went house to house in part of Poplar Bluff above Monday, ordering people to evacuate ahead of what they said was an imminent "catastrophic failure" of a levee on the Black River.

The metropolis said the levee had been compromised after a week in which the district received more than eight inches of rain. Authorities ordered some dwellers most at risk to evacuate quickly. Other residents approximate the river were queried to closely monitor developments and water levels in their vicinities,best sunglasses, the police ministry said.

"The levee is disabling at the minute and may fail at anybody period," the National Weather Service said in one attentive Monday afternoon.

Poplar Bluff was below a flood warning from the National Weather Service. The agency said the Black River is expected to ascend nearly distinct foot and a half before cresting Monday. Concern over the levee comes as parts of the Mississippi and Ohio river valleys clamp for what the National Weather Service said could be major flooding throughout the district. Some of the flooding could be record-setting, the agency said.

In Cape Girardeau, Missouri -- where the National Weather Service predicted that the Mississippi River would crest Friday at 12.five feet on flood stage -- the city-owned airport had to close Sunday as standing water from heavy rains covered its runways.

The airfield, which remained closed Monday, was activating a pumping system to explicit the water, governmental coordinator Katrina Atkins said, yet it was unclear when the airport might reopen as more ponderous rain namely prediction for the remainder of the week.
