Fairytales Come True with the Help of Local Program
Everyone knows Designer Prom Dresses, Cinderella had a fairy godmother to help her with her dress for the ball, but real life is no fairy tale. So without a fairy godmother on her side cheap prom dresses, how can a girl attend the ball in style?
Well, real life fairy godmother Carol Lanni grad dresses 2011, founder of 2011 prom dresses, “The Priceless Prom Program,” helps hundreds of girls in financial need find a dress for the prom every year.
Growing up in Boston with little money cheap prom dresses 2011, Carol Lanni was no stranger to financial hardships. She wants girls to know that they’re not the only one, and just because “they can’t afford a $400 dress doesn’t mean they’re worth less than anyone else.” She also doesn’t want kids to feel like this is a charity, since many of these dresses have only been worn once and that there is no shame in borrowing a dress from the program.
Lanni started the program five years ago while working at The Greater Lawrence Technical School; she overheard students saying how they wouldn’t be able to attend the prom due to the cost of a dress and other expenses. After hearing this Lanni set out on a mission to collect any dress that she could from her own closet and from the closets’ of friends as well. With these dresses the “Priceless Prom Program” was born.
Now if a girl is in need of a dress, they can attend the program’s boutique in Lawrence at 15 Union St. at the Everett Stone mill. During boutique days girls can search for a dress and other accessories such as shoes and jewelry to go with it. The girls pay a $10 fee for the dress, but if they’re unable to pay the fee cheap short prom dresses, it can be waived. In lieu of money girls can also donate one dress for another. “It’s all about keeping the program running cheap long prom dresses,” Lanni said.
The first boutique day for Pentucket is Saturday March 19th 11 am to 5 pm. Other dates as well are March 30th 5pm to 8pm, April 20th 5pm to 8 pm short prom dresses, April 30th 11am to 5pm and May 14th 11am to 5 pm.
The program also aims to help guys get ready for prom as well. Any money donations that are made are used to help buy gift cards for tux shops. Lanni believes that it is hard to get donations for guys since many tux shops are corporate owned and aren’t always willing to donate any tux rentals or discounts to the program. Russo’s Tux shop in Chelsea has recently gotten in contact with the program and hopes to help with this problem. Also Cleaner’s Spot in Woburn and Wilmington gives a discount if the customer tells other people about the shop.
The program is easy to donate to as well. There are several dress drop off sites, one in Fusion shop in Haverhill and John Anton’s cleaners in Andover. The dresses can be donated from January through May. The nonprofit organization is always looking for volunteers as well. Students can help with the dress shop by hanging dresses and painting their recently owned space for boutique days. The program will give volunteers a letter stating their volunteer work and how long they did it for.
The National Honor Society is also involved with Belle of the Ball, a program similar to the “Priceless Prom Program.” Belle of the Ball is teamed up with Anton’s Cleaners to collect dresses for girls in need. The NHS collected 25 dresses last year and hopes to collect just as many this year. All dresses long or short can be donated to Ms. Foss by April 1st.
Ms. Foss believes that plus size prom dresse, “it’s so important to give girls a chance to go to prom.” She also believes that for these girls receiving a dress is “a real watershed moment that gives these girls a real sense of belonging to their class.” She also believes that the program creates moments with “lots of tears, [and] lots of poignant moments.”
So this prom season clean out your closet and donate a dress to a girl in need. Your donation will be greatly appreciated and will help create memories for a lifetime.
