Default Attic fire gives east end family a scare

Beginning of Story Content A family in Toronto's east end had a lucky escape early Sunday after a fire broke out in their home on Bellamy Road near Lawrence Avenue. Firefighters cigarettes electronic said the fire was discovered when one family member heard a crackling sound in the ceiling. He went outside to investigate and saw smoke coming from the roof. There the electronic cigarette were working smoke detectors in the home, but the fire was in the attic and hadn't triggered them. Nobody was injured in the fire, which happened on the first day of Fire Safety Week in Ontario. Bev Gilbert of the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office says all levels of a home need smoke alarms, since people often have only seconds to reach safety in a fast-spreading fire.
