The variety of styles of prom dresses is as staggering as are some of the prices. A Philadelphia company Bridal dresses, Dress Goddess Graduation dresses, has created "the ultimate one-of-a-kind prom dress for 2011." The Le Femme dress features an assortment of genuine diamonds hand-sewn throughout the bodice, according to the website www.fashion7days.com/. Kingsburg High School has joined with the Visalia-based organization Enchanted Evening Dress, which holds a free prom dress event on April 16 at the Visalia Convention Center, 303 E. Applications to qualify to attend the event are available at the high school. Robin Lund, KHS ASB bookkeeper and parent Olivia Acuna are volunteering their time to ensure financially disadvantaged junior and senior girls have the opportunity to find a prom dress.

Deadline to apply is March 31.

"This is the first year Kingsburg has been involved and I would be happy if 10 or 15 girls apply," Lund says. "I would like to see it spread to our neighboring communities."

Lund says residents can help by donating "gently used" prom dresses.
"It should be a current style dress that they would wear Sliver dresses," Lund says.

Kingsburg's Pamela's Boutique and My Sister's Closet have donated items.

Donations to have the donated prom dresses dry cleaned are also needed. Accessories such jewelry and evening bags can be donated One shoulder dresses, too.

Lund was among last year's 35 volunteers who helped girls select dresses. Sizes range from small to plus-size.

"Some of the dresses were brand new and still had tags," she says. "I saw a $500 dress and designer brands. We want the girls to know that these are quality dresses. No one at prom is going to know where they got the dress."

This year's prom will be held May 7. Lund has chaperoned the KHS prom for the past 15 years.

"Prom is a rite of passage," she says. "It's really nice to see the kids looking spiffy."
