Hanson tops Marlins in Uggla's reunion
 

ATLANTA -- As they struggled through the first week of the season, the Braves remained confident their offense would show life. Tommy Hanson is glad it did on a night when he too escaped an early-season funk. While winning for just the second time in their past seven games, the Braves distanced themselves from the frustration felt while scoring two runs or fewer in six of this season's first 10 games. They recorded three consecutive two-out hits in the third inning and chased Chris Volstad with two outs in the fifth.The much-welcomed offensive display was appreciated by Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez and second baseman Dan Uggla, who were opposing the Marlins for the first time since leaving the club. Gonzalez was certainly happy to see Hanson limit the Marlins to four hits over seven scoreless innings. The talented Braves right-hander appeared much more poised than he had been while totaling three strikeouts and losing his first two starts.Hanson struck out three of the first five batters he faced and ended with five during his 98-pitch effort. He pitched around leadoff doubles hit by Mike Stanton and Logan Morrison in the second and fifth innings, respectively. The fifth frame concluded with Hanson getting Chris Coghlan to swing through a third strike with runners at first and second base.Volstad seemed to be in command when he needed just 23 pitches to get through the first two innings without allowing a hit. But after retiring the first two batters he faced in the third he surrendered a two-out single to Prado, who scored from first base when Nate McLouth followed with an RBI double off the right-center field wall. Chipper Jones began his two-RBI performance with a third consecutive two-out hit to cap the two-run third inning. Heyward increased Hanson's advantage to three runs when he lined a 2-0 fastball over the center-field wall. The 21-year-old right fielder's third homer of the season traveled an estimated 433 feet. Prado doubled to begin the fifth inning and advanced to third base on a McLouth sacrifice bunt. That put him in position to score on Jones' opposite-field sacrifice fly. Brian McCann followed with a solo homer, which eased some of the frustration that had built while he was recording just two hits in his first 17 career at-bats against Volstad. Uggla's only hit against his former club came when he blooped a Volstad fastball to right field and hustled to second base with a double.
